Description
Florence Heath Burtt was a member of the Radcliffe College Class of 1903. This scrapbook contains photographs, correspondence, clippings, exams, and class schedules documenting her years at Radcliffe College. Burtt wrote the score for the 1902 Radcliffe Class operetta, “An Island Idyl,” and much of the scrapbook documents her work on the operetta and her collaboration with classmate Grace Hollingsworth Tucker, who wrote the story. There are notes, handwritten drafts of scores and scripts, reviews, and letters from family and friends reacting to the show. There are also letters from Radcliffe graduate Josephine Sherwood Hull; Burtt had hoped Hull would star in the operetta. The letters contain advice and suggestions for the operetta. The scrapbook also includes a few scripts for other plays, some with annotations. In addition, there are programs from other performances, including the Radcliffe Glee Club, of which Burtt was a member and leader. It also contains tickets and programs from traditional Radcliffe events, including Radcliffe commencement. There are also planning notes, clippings, and tickets from Radcliffe Class Day, and drawings of Radcliffe students and surroundings.
