Description
The bulk of this volume deals with Adee's year-long absence from Vassar College due to sickness, presumably typhoid fever. Adee contracted the disease at the college in the the first semester of her senior year (October 1868), began her recovery in the school's infirmary, but was soon taken home to her family in Balmville, a hamlet of Newburgh, N.Y. She returned to the college in 1869 and graduated with the Class of 1870, although she felt a stronger affiliation with the Class of 1869. Subjects covered include religion and her membership in St. Georges Episcopal Church in Newburgh; her academic challenges, especially oration/elocution; and her feelings about her time at Vassar, Commencement, and her Vassar degree.
