Description
The Mary (Reed) Earl diary covers the full four years she spent at Vassar, beginning with entrance exams in September 1891 and ending with commencement in 1895 and thoughts about what she might do with her Vassar education. She didn't usually go into much detail about college events, but she did dutifully record them, including Halloween, Washington's Birthday, Trig Ceremonies, as well as lectures, plays, and music events both on campus and in Poughkeepsie. She also mentioned her involvement with the Vassar chapter of the Y.W.C.A., the Glee Club, and the Sunday choir. She did go into some detail about the Chicago World's Fair, which she attended with her family in July 1893; and a June 1894 Y.W.C.A. conference at the Northfield School for Girls. She also described people and events in her hometown, Sharon, NY, where she spent her vacations.
